We are excited to announce the commencement of the Adelaide Oncology & Haematology “Cancer Genetics Clinic” at St Andrew’s Medical Centre and Calvary Central Districts Hospital. Dr Jacqui Adams will provide assessment of inherited cancer risk, genetic counselling and, if appropriate, genetic testing as well as personalised screening advice and cancer risk management planning.

Dr Jacqui Adams trained in Medical Oncology and Cancer Genetics in the UK where she worked as a locum consultant in Medical Oncology and Cancer Genetics at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust prior to moving to NZ.  She has maintained her interest in Cancer Genetics and is a member of the NSW Cancer Institute eviQ Cancer Genetics reference committee working with national experts to provide standardised Australian guidelines for the testing and management of inherited disorders associated with cancer. She is thrilled to be able to offer this specialised medical service with Adelaide Oncology & Haematology.

The launch of Jacqui’s clinic coincides with the release this week of the Cancer Australia Statement – Influencing best practice in breast cancer, of which the first of the 12 identified practices is “To offer genetic counselling to women with a high familial risk at or around the time that they are diagnosed with breast cancer, with a view to genetic testing to inform decision-making about treatment.”

The Adelaide Oncology & Haematology Cancer Genetics Clinic complements the existing package of services Adelaide Oncology & Haematology offers to ensure the provision of comprehensive individualised patient-centred care.

Dr Jacqui Adams provides this specialised medical service supporting individuals and families concerned about cancer.
